1992 110 300 TD - Was working on hooking up my trailer lights - standard hookup - Wire Colors (G) green (RT) Yellow (LT) Brown (Tail Lights).
I blew a the (Tail Light) fuse due to a short, replaced it then rewired to a brown Defender wire, blew it again and now the whole system went down and the truck won't start? I get no voltage on most of my breaker panel see attached?
I have a 1992 110 defender 300 TDI and I am trying to hook it up trailer wiring! The wiring works just fine on the yellow for left blinker, brown for the tail lights and the white for ground, but the right green wire when probed with a multimeter says it’s getting voltage but not enough voltage to drive the right trailer light, but it works just fine on the right truck blinker light? I’ve checked all the trailer lights “OK”: I replaced bulbs, I’ve checked all the wiring and it still doesn’t work? Very strange?
I'd keep looking at wire or connection at the connections of trailer harness. Wire could be bad internally, it only takes one strand of wire to carry 12 volts...but one strand won't carry the amperage needed to light bulb. Me, l'd hook a bulb up, right close to the connection for right blinker, at connection for vehicle 's light and see if it lights up two bulbs that way. If it does, then issue is downstream, from harness connection to trailer plug. If it doesn't light both bulbs, the issue is up stream, between turn signal fuse and rear of vehicle.
Can't remember off the top of my head and repair manual l have is in the garage, but does each blinker have a fuse, right and left separately? If they are separate, make sure you have a fuse that will carry enough amerage. Typically, a bulb needs about 3.5/4.0 amps to illuminate, so with front and rear bulb demand is about 7 or 8 amps...so system would typically have a 10 amp fuse with this demand...but add another bulb and fuse says no way. You'll either get weak illumination at all bulbs or only some bulbs working. If you have a multimeter, measure amperage draw at trailer light. Set meter on amps, lowest setting, and measure across socket center terminal and socket housing...with turn signal on of course.
