On my defender 90, model 1995, I rebuilt the engine - new pistons and new con rod. on the con rods there is a number on one side - which side it should be - the side of the oil filter or the other side ?

I can't remember which side the numbers go on but there is a groove in the rod bearing that picks up oil. that groove should be on the leading side as it rotates for the groove to pick up oil to properly supply oil to the bearings. As best as I can remember that is. I haven't had mine that far apart lately.
