Default removing a faulty immobiliser? TD5 99 Def 110

HI All

I have a misbehaving TD5 110 Defender!

symptoms:

Multiple odd electrical issues

Turn on the lights - alarm horn sounds - no light though

Poor starting - takes between 1 - 5 attempts to start - sometimes 1 and behaves other times can take maybe 5 attempts!

Engine occasionally "coughs" at starting

Nothing on an ECU error scan

My suspicion is that its the immobiliser - not sure how I can remove this - I saw a small wiring spider that plugs into the cable and the imm. box is removed - other articles say the ECU needs re-programmmed to ignore the alarm box - but does that get rid of the faults caused by it??

I could in theory remove it and try resoldering it and find any dry joints?

In New Zealand we dont really have a huge crime rate on 4WD so I could remove the offending box - or maybe get a new one imported?

Ideas!

This thing is driving me mad!!

thanks!

Simon
