Default Shock absorbers for a 110

Greetings, I have a question for you. I haven't posted in awhile, but here it goes. I had my 110 in the Landy shop today for some work and I wanted to check on having the shocks replaced. I asked for the price and he gave me a price with new springs as well and told me that they had to be replaced as a unit. So my question is, can you replace only the shock absorbers? Thank you in advance! By the way, its a 1986 110.

Yes you can re-fit the old spring over a new shock. However, by the time a shock has worn out it's rarely worth keeping the old spring. An old spring over a new damper will probably reduce the life of the damper.

What I suspect your mechanic meant was "It's better, safer, cheaper in the long run and will mean the new shocks last longer if we replace the springs at the same time"

Cheers,
