A Way to Import a 2007 Defender to US
ORIGINAL: Disco Mike
There is absolutely no way to bring one in, be it by parts or on the wheels.

I am currently converting a 1983 vehicle to lhd, putting it on a new galvanised chassis and changing the body style to a double cab with metalic paint, the works.
I currently Have 5 RHD defenders in stock, 3 in the work shop and 2 ready for sale, realistically priced from $12,000 plus shipping.

globallandrovers what has to be done to import these rovers? Can they be imported as is or do they all require work before they will pass USA EPA and customs checks? Does it matter if they are right hand or left hand drive?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Tjeep,
The 1983 vehicles we currently have in stock can be imported to the USA as RHD vehicles and titled with no problems. As all engines conform to the 25 yr dot rule and the 21 year epa rule.
If you have a turbo diesel installed it vairys state to state. One of my clients who posts on the D-90 forum just registered 2 1983 110's in Maryland. So I can get him to give me the details of the maryland process, It may help in your state. please have a look at my website where one of the 1983 110's is listed, the other are being prepared in our workshops. www.globallandrovers.com
all the best and happy rovering

Mike is right, you need to bring in a 1983/4(next year) already rebuilt in the UK or europe if you want newer spec, this means rebuilt using a new chassis and NOT ringed!
You can get one here but involves bribery an australian embassy personel ( britsh and norwegian work too) and 1 year of letting them drive it, seen it done, they are allowed to sell the car after that time frame. Seen it done at my work rosenthal, a coworker and a 2004 defender with the help of his friend from the embassy of australia. Otherwise no non NAS defenders are driveable, that includes Canada after 1999. There is still the issue whether you want to be on the wrong side of the cabin with the aussie or british truck, norway left hand drive. scott
Yes, you can import a brand new 2010 defender.
You will import it as a "off road" or "off highway" vehicle. You will have to remove the mirrors & seats and add a roll-bar & one racing seat to meet import rules. The mods will have to be done before it enters any US port or customs will make you send it back. I got to sit in my first one and run the engine for a min before I had to watch the container doors closed as it was returned back to the UK at my cost. However, I have learned from that $5600 mistake. Read the rules people, read the rules.
As a side note: you can bring one in to use as parts (cannot have a engine, trans, etc.) or import it as "Export Only" (must say export on vehicle and shipping docs)
