"claying"
Yes. Clay can be a very effective tool in your detailing bag. If done correctly. I’ve been detailing professionally for more than half my life and I have had to correct the paint on several cars from improper claying. So do yourself a favor and read the link to the Autopia site that was previous posted, it will keep you on the right track and safe from any problems. I also would like to recommend that after you clean your truck of any residue left over from the clay, that you use a good polish and than a high quality sealant. I’m new to this site so I don’t want to recommend specific products, but do some research and I’m sure you will do just fine. Good luck.
Jeremiah.
I dont know what the rules are about suggesting things, but ive seen it done. But ive been using Meguiars Clay bar kit from Walmart. I am a huge fan of their products and they are very good. You can actually head to their web site and go into the forums and they have a step by step process in washing, claying, polish wax, and finish wax.
For me, I usually Wash, Clay, Cleaner Wax, Polish Wax and Finish Wax once a year. Then just Wash and wax as needed. Just be careful NOT to drop the clay bar or put it on the groud, you dont want to get rocks in it.
As for Claying, you will notice a panio like feel after you clay. Its very smooth and removes any impurities in the paint. Worth a whole days work...

Hmm... I don't do clay but I will try next time. I also think that "the shine shop" reply is right. I will clay my car first then polish then wax.

Be very cautious about overclaying ... it removes microlayers of clear and can eventually wear holes in the clearcoat ...
A buddy thought that if yearly was good monthly would be better ... he ruined the clearcoat and has paint problems now
