Oh yeah, didn't the shop you used top off with PS fluid? How did that go when you called to ask if they would cover repairs?

I'll know today after I speak with them. This is a small town, small shop, and was an honest mistake. I would be happy if they simply put the new one on for me. I don't expect them to replace a PS pump with almost 200k on it with a new one. I'll buy the part.

Sounds reasonable, good luck. Hopefully you don't have jerk mechanics where you're at.

Just so you know, the bleed screw is ontop of the steering box.

They agree that they bear some of the responsibility for the damage and are going to do the labor at a great discount. I'm going to put a chevy version back in since new they are only 80 bucks, they will take care of doing any modifications etc total cost 100 bucks. I felt that was fair.

Oh, see I didn't know that. I thought it was one of the hoses coming from the reservoir.

Ok so the correct procedure is..

Attach hose to bleed screw (anyone know tubing size?)
Crack the bleed screw
Start vehicle to get the pump running
Make sure to keep the reservoir topped up (how quick will it drain? Is this a two man job?).

People were quick to put down the OP's method but didn't exactly clarify on the correct way.

Yes that is the correct way.
Ice maker water tubing from The Home Depot.
Yes you will need a helper and a empty washer solvent bottle.
Depends on how far you open the bleed screw.

Silly question, but where is the bleed screw located?

*** update ****

Finally found it under the section

Service repair no. - 57.15.02
