Default 135 MPH Speedo

It just occured to me that the D1 speedo goes up to 135MPH. Raise of hands who has gone over 100MPH in their rover... How fast have you got it?

I get it up to 75 and get nervous. Are they just showing off? haha

A lot of vehicles have speedos that read far in excess of the actual top speed or safe top speed.

My days of doing that are over and it was all done is sports cars. In a Disco any speed above 65 should be in the yellow, then red like tachs do.

Maybe it's there in case you find yourself in Utah.

Hmm...I don't have any roads that let me go over 55mph. But I have pegged the needle on many cars and trucks in my younger days.

Thanks captain obvious. haha I understand that. But most vehicles can at least get somewhat close to the max speedo speed. Not almost double safe speed for these trucks.

Just giving this forum a fun topic instead of just a tech feel. Plus I thought it would be fun to see how fast someone has gone in a D1. Not saying I recommend it or think it's a good idea.

Wasn't that long ago when spedo's were mandated to max at 85. Obviously many cars were capable of that and more.

I used to like matching the digital spedo and outside temp on my Corvette. Living in the SE I used to see triple digits quite often... ;-)

I have a 160 mph speedo in my Merc station wagon, and I know it will do at least half of it. Thought the Disco had a built in limit of about 114... gas gauge probably moves a little faster there. But with high center of gravity and the aerodynamics of a brick, not such a good idea. Seen plenty in the junk yard that have rolled over.

When I lived in Florida, I had a 280ZX and a 73 Mustang with a 302. If I left for work at 7:30, the ten mile trip took every bit of a half hour due to the bumper to bumper traffic.

If I waited until 7:50 or so, the traffi was much lighter, I could jump on I-95, hit 110 or better and make the trip in aboput six or seven minutes.

We used to routinely cruise over 100 in the 280, the Mustang, the Volvo 240 and later a MB420SEL.

The other day I got the Discovery up to 70 or 75 and felt that was too much. They are definitely not a high speed cruiser like those other vehicles.
