Default 1994 v8 electronics

What efi system does the 1994 v8 originals from California have? Are there code readers that work with that system? It is pre OBD2. Are there any common issues or concerns with that system?

I have a 94 with a 14CUX system (not GEMs). The thing is stout, maybe bullet-proof. Mine has a built-in code display under the passenger (right side) seat, but only shows one at a time. There was a thread I read about using the connector behind the glove box to get codes and real-time information, but I did not do that. When I disconnected the O2 sensors, both codes showed up under the seat along with the CEL. The codes are two digits and Google has a list of definitions. I got the 94 from U Pull It a few years back, it had Missouri plates, so don't know much about Cali.

OBD1 basically = 94-95 D1 with the 14CUX. Yep code reader is under the seat. In CA they'll just have to smog test you via the tailpipe.

You got it! The red digits shine through the plastic cover. To check it out, disconnect then reconnect the engine battery. It should show code 02 (that's zero two, not oh too).

Anybody with a 14CUX car should have Rovergauge. Free software, and you can buy or make a cable. You can even get an android app for it, free too.

It's 100% the best thing for diagnostic info.

I do seem to have a bad hesitation/cutout if I try to accelerate when I first start the truck. If I go super easy on the throttle it’s ok. After a warm up and then engine shut down and restart there is no more hesitation/ cut out. I checked a bunch of the ground connections, the wiring connections I could see, no difference. There is no check engine lights on. Any ideas?

don't these Discoverys have the fuel filter in the rear passenger side wheel well?
