I would respectfuly remind members that at some point the insult exchange can subject members to a variety of reductions in access, including ban. Our forum exists for the free exchange of information on Rovers. Graduation from charm school is not required. Graduation from high school is not required. And try not to enter into a battle of wits with an un-armed opponent. Save those really passionate exchanges for the serious stuff, like what is the best oil and filter to run in my 15 year old abused Disco with painted over check engine lights and 100% Lucas (in the engine, not just controlling it).

The starter running slower should have tipped me off, it happened to me. The starter will run at normal speed as long as it has normal voltage all the way to the innards. Whle we can find the corrosion on the battery and other terminals, once those are clean the inside of the starter is harder to get at. My starter draws like 285 amps measured with a DC clamp meter, so it takes 0.021 ohms of resistance from corrosion to drop six volts and take the starter down with it. Did the starter get that from mud and water, or pressure washer, who knows. Will it fail soon? Probably. Is it a PITA to swap out? Yep. I got one at the boneyard and it was a battle the first time. I should have got a local starter rebuilder to put his delicatessen touch on it in retrospect.
