Does anyone have a younger 5spd than me? I bought this 10 years ago at the Aston Martin dealership in Atlanta. Odometer reads 218k.

 

They can be okay if the previous owner has kept up with everything mechanical. I work as a valet so I've seen the whole spectrum. Some have every single warning light on and die within 1/4 of a mile. Some seem to drive okay. That being said, I've never seen or driven one in more than okay condition, so that may tell you something about how much maintaining them costs and about long term reliability. As in if no one is willing to put in a bit of money in maintenance to keep it around much longer, then it's probably a worthless car.

 

Ehhhh… I disagree about them being difficult to revive and maintain.. As far as roached cars being brought back to life go, D1s are relatively simple. Parts are pretty damn cheap. And they are easy to work on. Reviving an abused version isn’t actually terribly difficult as far as reviving used cars go. Similar and same parts for a RRC ARE getting marked up and vendors are capitalizing on their popularity. But at this point in history people mostly just see these as old tired trucks instead of classics. I think People see “land rovers” and think exotic complicated and expensive… these are not that. And They are nothing like more modern Range Rovers.They really just put something more comfortable than a tractor cab on a defender basically. The most difficult part is probably the rust, an even that isn’t horribly difficult. The UK has much longer history with loads more rust and the panels and resources exist for even those repairs.

Younger would be truck that is newer than his 03/97 date.
