1999 Discovery I SD Cuts out in Traffic/at Stop Light/at rolling stop/when A/C is on
Any ideas?
If I am in a fast food drive-through line I can feel the engine getting rough and starting to shake and then I have to throw the gear into Neutral to calm it down otherwise it will cutout but it always starts right back up.
If I have my A/C on it will cutout as well if I am in traffic or at a stoplight.
If I coast into my garage it will cutout sometimes once I take my foot off the pedal to let it coast into the driveway and into the garage.
All of these issues don't happen all the time just often enough to be embarrassing and annoying at the same time!

Thanks, I will get my mechanic to help me figure out what you just said... LOL!! ;-)
Thanks All..
Thanks so much, I will look into all of this and report back. And yes that's very observant of you because my transmission is giving me problems as well... I can be driving and it starts to drag all of a sudden and then mysteriously picks up speed again, but that's another post for another time!
Thanks All..

As your driving usually between 45-55 (maybe higher) the engine all of a sudden cuts back from 2500-3k down to ~1800?
If you have an OBD2 Reader (cheap bluetooth, or ultragauge) check the vehicle speed. If the VSS Fails it will report to the engine much higher speed than your actually travelling. the Speedo will read fine however adding to the confusion.
VSS is easy to rebuild, there is a thread on it in the tech section.
not sure if it would account for the stalling in traffic but you never know ... if it is really hosed
This sounds like a bad VSS .... I replaced the tranny before finding out that was the cause.

Then I have to depend on my GPS speedometer to tell me how fast I am going.
That was another problem that I was going to post on here but you called it already.
So what does this all mean? I guess I need to replace this VSS thingy??
