Default 33's

I know there have been posts bout it before but I was wondering what exactly has to be done to a disco 1 with 2 inch ome hd lift to fit 33's? I know the obvious answer is trimming but how much? Has anyone done this that has a pic of the finished product? I currently have 245/75 but I'd like to go bigger, 265/75 is an option but I want to at least consider the 33's. I know some will say upgrade axles, lockers, new rims, bigger lift, stronger driveshafts, but my question is how much would I have to trim

With 33's you would need a new set of gears and lockers to off set the 1.5 to 2.0 MPG drop and a near total loss of low end torgue. You might want to go to the RTE site and read up on what they suggest so you are still able to get full articulation when done.

You don't NEED gears, lockers and axles. I ran 33s with a 2" TF lift and some cutting. Never broke anything wheeling but I was real light on the skinny pedal. It will get by just fine on stock gears. You will lose speed on hills but on flat ground its not bad. I pulled a Honda Prelude on a 2200 lb trailer with stock gears on 33s. I am in the process of installed 4.12s, lockers, and axles right now but you don't have to have them.

Thank you both for your replies. I know that the size would kill my mpg and put a lot of thing at risk of breaking but if these new jeeps can run 35's on stock gears then why can't I run 33's? I know that they are two totally different vehicles with different capabilities and all. I have a buddy with 37's on stock axles and he wheels often and hard. I'd love to upgrade the axles, gears and lockers but don't have the money for it right now so that brought the question of trimming. I know it wouldn't have to be to too much but I welcome the idea of flares, actually really like that look. Would the 265s be a better set up?

265s are a good size. I went from a 265 to 285 and the truck looks way better imo. I'll be going 315s (35s) next go round though.

I have a set of D2 flares if you're interested.

I've always wanted to go with 285 and there's a set that just became available to me. I was looking at motorvated's truck with the 3 inch lift and 33s and that get me thinking of just how much I'd like 285s. CUpgt would you happen to have any pics of the 2" with 285's? FishEH I've looked at the d2 flares before but how would the attach? I know they come glued on to the d2s

Like you said, I have roughly 3 inches if lift and worn 33s, but I don't rub. I haven't fleced it out yet though, so it may need some trimming. The only thing that currently rubs is the fron tires on the lower arms, when the steering is at full lock. As for power, I don't feel like I lost any. Maybe its the 5 speed? A regear will happen, but not until I upgrade the shafts ans get lockers so I can run 35s

I do see lockers and a regear in the future but that could be the far future. I'd be willing to throw some 1" spacers in there but preferably trim. I've got a huy in the are with 4 285 procomp mud terrain that are about 70% worn and he wants $150 for all four. With a deal like that I think I'm just going to grab them and even if I don't put them on now ill have them for in the future when I am ready

The D2 flares attach with 3M tape. The same stuff used on window vent shades. You'd need new tape.
You'll need to do at least a camel cut. Flex it out in a controlled test to see where additional trimming is needed BEFORE hitting the trail. A surprisingly good test is to stick a drive on ramp at opposite wheels, front left and back right, then drive up.
Whether you decide to run swaybars or not and your shock length will play a big role in your travel too.
