94-95 alternator vs 96-1998
did a little searching , didnt find an answer....
does anyone know exactly what the difference is between the 95-96 alternators and the 96-98/99 ones ?
different part #'s but , they are interchangeable ... as far as bolting on...
the 96's have a small gizmo on the back ....looks removeable ?? ( screwdriver is pointing to it )
my 95 is squealling and I have 2 spares for the 98....go figure lol

The only major diff between the two is a the pulley size with the 3.9's having the larger size. Suppression capacitor or phase tap resistor I believe is the gizmo your pointing to. According to the manual they're both tied together and lead to the tach which the blade connector is for.
I also have a 94/95 as a spare for my 97 and there wasn't a noticeable difference when I've used it.

well, quick update.........
I bolted up the 98 alternator to my 95 and it charged ok, but no tach.......removed the "gizmo" and the tach works fine......
thanks ih for the reply!
