Default '94 Disco Rust

Hello all,

I'm new here. I just bought a 1994 Disco for $600. The PO had just redone the heads.

My questions is about rust. Most of my previous cars have been older Volvos. Volvo undercoated & rust proofed the heck out of those things, it doesn't seem Land Rover thought about that at all.

Anywho, I've found a line of rust under the carpet & sound deadening at the rear hatch. My plan is to sand & POR 15.

My questions is this: After sanding and applying the POR 15, does it make sense to apply spray on bed liner as well? I would go with something like Line X.

Thanks!

No, the POR is a great product and i can't see you getting much if any sound deadening from the rhino.

I would put the foam & carpet back over top of everything. I just want to make sure that any water coming in can't get to the metal.

Just use the POR liberally and no water will get to metal. Clean/lightly sand everything your applying it to, you basically just want to ruff everything up so the POR gets a good bond. Above all else make sure the surfaces are clear of anything oil like.

On a near 17 year old Disco, you will need to do more then sanding to stop the rust. I would suggest you pull the seats, all the carpet and do a complete inspection, top and bottom cause there will be more rust lurking, that if not caught will cause you to have a massive metal break down.

Mike is right, pull those carpets totally out aand check out your floor board. There are lots of places for water to get in and the carpets mask a lot of corrosion if you fail to properly look for it. Rhinoliner will gain you nothing in the long run, just another layer for the corrosion to develop in.

Check your sunroof drains, around your Alpine windows and rear door and side windows also.
