Default My Custom Grill

While I realize some of your are purists or have nicer Disco's than mine I wanted something besides my busted piece of junk plastic grill insert, so I made my own. I welded it up, took it to a welding shop to have it bent on a brake (I didn't have access to one so this cost me), made some relief cuts so I could curve it to follow the bumper, primed it, and painted it. I used simple rattle can primer and paint. All told I was in about 35-40 bucks for the supplies (but I had Home Depot gift cards to burn), and another 80 to have it bent. But I really like the look, I have far superior air flow, and it was cheaper than a Saudi grill.

Here is the build list:

2 expanded metal grates
2 1 1/2" x 1/8" x 4' Flat Metal
2 1 1/4" x 1/8" x 4' Flat Metal
1 3/4" x 1/8" x 4" Flat Metal
1 Can Krylon Gun Metal Gray Primer
1 Can Flat Black Spray Paint

That's it. I measured and remeasured to get the specs right. I still have one corner that needs a little more shaping because it doesn't follow the headlight curve well I just haven't had time. Here are the pics. I will be happy to share my measurements if anyone wants them but they are for a DI so if you have a DII you may need to adjust them some.

BTW I plan to add an LR badge to the grill I just haven't gotten to put it on yet.

Man, where are the Head Lamp Washers?????

Actually I really do like it so much beter than the plastic junk ones that come on them!!

Iwas thinking about something smilar with some arr stock or cutouts in some sheet, but I bet the cooling effect is much better with the expanded metal.

Nice job, now you just need to replace the LR emblem and she'll look sweet.

Thanks guys. The headlamp washers were snapped off when I bought the Disco. I believe she had a minor undisclosed front fender bender before she became mine. There are lots of little broken bits all over the front that I find periodically. Thanks again guys.

Lol spencer. I remember the discoweb ordeal you suffered. Sorry but that still makes me laugh. I am not even a member on there and wouldn't even consider it after how they reacted to you. But thanks for the heads up.
