Default 95 3.9 what is the correct idle at start up

What is the correct idle at first start up. I am currently getting 1500 for a few seconds then it steps down to 1250, 1000 and settles at 750. I have been doing alot of cleaning of vaccum lines and other work and this initial speed of 1500 is new, previously it has been starting at about 1250 to 1000 and then steping down to about 650.

Where should it be?

IACV needs cleaning with carb cleaner, plus throttle plate, plus PCV system.

Sounds about right at about 650.

RAVE shop manuals says these are the rpms, depends on your equipment -

Idle speed - controlled by MFI system
- all loads off in neutral .................................................. ... 665 to 735 rev/min
- auto gearbox in gear, air con operating ......................... 650 ± 28 rev/min
- auto gearbox in gear, air con off .................................... 600 ± 28 rev/min
- manual gearbox .................................................. ........... 700 ± 28 rev/min
- manual gearbox, air con operating ................................ 750 ± 28 rev/min
Base idle speed .................................................. ............ 525 ± 25 rev/min See
FUEL SYSTEM, Fault
diagnosis, Base idle speed setting.
Ignition Timing - dynamic at 800 rev/min max,
vacuum disconnected

I should be more clear in my question - Should it always immeaditaly go to 1500 and then step down or when the engine is warm should start at 750 - 650?

Also I am still battleing the no start when hot problem, I ve got good fuel pressure, new injectors, new fuel temp and new coolant temp sensors what else in the starting process is affected by the temp of the engine.

I am going to go clean now

Thanks Mike

Should improve. Let us know. When you clean IACV just use carb spray, don't fiddle with the end of the pintle. Also do the bore it fits into. It is a 200 position stepper motor and the ECU takes care of moving it in/out.

Cleaned everything again and removed the thick gasket I had installed and used thread sealant on it and now it starts (cold) at about 1000 and steps down to 650 to 750, I am pretty sure the problem was the gasket I had put on there moved the seat back far enough that it was screwing up the pintle seating correctly, anyways much better now

Now if I can get this hot start problem fixed
