Default are the 96' and 97' harnesses interchangeable?

hey everyone, i just swapped in a new (used) 4.0 v8 motor from a 97 into my 96 disco, was wondering if I could also use the harness from that year or if there's some incompatibility.

i know i know, i can just take both of them out and compare side by side but just checking if anyone knows off the top of their head.

would save me a lot of work

thanks!

Those years used the same engine management system (GEMS), so I guess the wiring is the same. But this is not knowledge from experience.

I know there are different harnesses for Left and Right hand drive and of course GEMs gas vs diesel
I did find that this part number below for left hand drive GEMs is for a VIN forward so you need to check your VIN to be sure - there is a difference in the smog control system between 96 and 97 MY's so possible a difference in the wiring harness

AMR4209
From VIN TA163104

96 should all be non AEL vs 97 which could be both. That would be the only difference in the USA.
