Default '97 Discovery Exhaust Manifold Replacement

I have a cracked right exhaust manifold on my '97 Discovery. There is a 2001 Discovery in a local junkyard with good manifolds. Will these fit the '97? Any comments on what size manifold bolt heads are used on the Disco? Torx or ???

Thanks!

Vince

D1/D2 exhaust manifolds are the same thing. You'll need a 12point socket for the bolts, 12/13mm it's been a while since I've removed a set, and when you get it off I'd replace the 3 lower studs that connect to cat y pipe along with upper/lower exhaust manifold gaskets.

bring a can of PB blaster or other 'liquid wrench' type product. They can be pretty tough to get off the old manifold.

THANKS! For the great responses! I was thinking the bolts looked pretty rusted on and I'm hoping the truck will still be there this weekend.

Had a successful weekend with the Discovery.....both manifolds were still there, and the bolts are indeed 12 point 12mm. All of them came out easily using a regular 1/2 inch ratchet and socket. The lower exhaust bolts were broken off by someone previously to remove the downpipes.

That the bolts all came out so easily and the metal gaskets looked good made me wonder if the heads had been taken off recently for some reason? Rebuild or head gaskets? Spark plug wires and plugs looked fresh, too. Truck is rusty body-wise and that is probably why it is in the scrapyard.

You guys know your Land Rovers better than I do... Should I go back and pull the valve covers and see what it looks like in there?

My next project on my '97 is to pull the heads and fix a blown head gasket that is causing overheating. So a possibly rebuilt set of heads could be useful....

Thanks again for the great comments!

If you can get a second set of heads for a decent price and they looked ok, I'd probably snag them for future use.
