99-02 D2 Grill on 94-99 D1:
I've been asking this question for several years and I never got a single positive answer. My 98 D1's grill was basically just hanging on by the lower headlight finishers. Well several visits to a nearby pick n pull and I got an 03/04 D2 Grill and finally a 99-02 D2 grill (in a very similar color green) that I was keeping for spare parts/future projects.
Well I used the 03/04 grill on my 02 Kalahari and TF Winch Bumper, and I then finally found an ARB Bumper locally for a good price for my D1. It was a 99-02 D2 model ARB Bumper. Well I had to remove the headlight finishers, and grill in order to get the ARB into position and mounted.
I figured wth lets see how much tweaking a 99-02 D2 grill would require in order to fit. It's the EXACT same width/height! I just needed to trim the top near the hood latch release, drill out the top 3 grill mounting holes to accept the 99-04 plastic clips. Then for the head light finishers all you have to do is trim off the lower part with a hacksaw. Mounts up beautifully and since the ARB was for a 99-02 D2 the curve of the inner part of the ARB matches up perfect. So It can be done! I think you could honestly get the 99-02 headlight finishers, and turn signals to completely make the front of a 94-99 D1 look identical to a 99-02 D2.
Now the D2 grill looks flawless when paired up to the ARB. I don't think it would match up with the OEM bumper though.
Just wanted to post my findings which are based on actual experience vs "oh it won't work" or "a D2 is wider and there is no way.."
