Default 99-02 Series II Grill/Trim on a 94-98 Series I

I searched and came up with nada except for an 03-04 Grill/Headlight conversion on a Series I. I have a 98 and the grill might as well be made out of trace paper. It's got several cracks on the upper part around the LR badge, and the upper lip that secures it via 3 screws is cracked around all 3 mounting holes.

I went to several salvage yards that claimed to have good grills for 94-98 Series I Discovery's and if those were in good shape then mine is in mint condition.

I see good Series II grills on Ebay all day long for good prices, and then I find Series I grills in about the same condition of mine for close to 200.00.

Question is can I get a Series II grill, turn signals, and lower headlight surrounds and bolt it up to my Series I without a lot of hassle?

I'll be installing an aftermarket bumper eventually so I'm not worried about it matching up with the OEM front bumper.

Any info would be great thanks!

Yep D1 Series I/D2 Series II, I've found the 03/04 front clip conversion, but I don't think there is much difference in a 94-98 to 99-02 front end the turn lamps are simular, same headlamps minus chrome vs black surround, maybe the grill itself is slighlty larger. Just curious as I can find nice D2 grills for good prices vs broken/trashed D1 grills.

Know the problem, early grills become brittle as does most of the interior. If you can find a DII front for cheap give it a shot. I'm pretty sure there's going to be some mods to make it fit up. I know the 99-02 headlights fit..... they're all kinda cheesy for something that sits out front and takes all the abuse, like toilet paper in front of a block wall during a hurricane.

Luckily the interior on my 98 is mint minus a slightly sagging headliner. I noticed the grill was delicate when I bought it, then the other day something flew up at my disco and took a 1inch sized chunk out of the lower headlight trim! That's when I was thinking to try a D2 grill, turn signals, and lower headlight trim. I looked at 9 wrecked D1's and compared to their grills mine was perfect. I'll see if I can get some measurements

I'm sure it can be done, I'm positive it can be but don't know how much work it would take to graft it on. I don't even know the width measurements off hand. I know if you make it happen more will follow...... it could be the new trend here for awhile......

I would possibly go for that conversion if I found it cheap, but those 03/04 lights are famous for fogging up.

I'd think a 99-02 D2 conversion would be easier/cheaper since the headlights are the same.

Plastic lenses fog up due to the UV protective layer weathering (the outermost layer). Just like most vehicles with plastic headlights, which you can see everywhere. It is easy to make them new again with an abrasive cleaner and a new coat of UV sealant

I do agree with you that the 99-02 lights are cheaper and easier since they drop in.

I'm not talking about getting cloudy. I'm talking about actually getting moisture in them. I owned 2 03's and now I have an 04 and they all get moisture buildup from the hot engine bay and cooler outside air in them eventually. Gotta tear them apart and reseal them. The D1/D2 older ones can get moisture as well but replacements are much cheaper.

And no real wiring mods are needed vs the 03/04 setup. I just want a grill that doesn't crack like an egg!
