Default 99 Disco 1 no crank when hot

I have a 1999 Discovery 1 and one problem (out of many) is after driving, getting up to temp and sitting for 10-15 minutes ill go to start it and get nothing. Dash lights come on but it won't crank. About two more turns it will crank but won't start, not even a sputter. 5th time it will start right up.

Looking through all the "hard hot start" threads none had a cranking issue. Since it does start normally id leave it be but it is getting more frequent.

Any ideas? (CPS new, thought that was it, it wasn't)

Have you checked grounds? I would also suggest checking the contact area of the starter to bell housing for oil/corrosion between the two. You can also check the starter, they have four brushes and when they start deteriorating or are becoming thin or disappearing they can develop higher amp draw overheating the starter. It's not hard to pull apart a starter, it's hard to put them back together again...... Other problematic sensors are the coolant sensor for the ECU failing causing hard starts and the fuel temp sensor failing by not allowing a long enough purge of the hot fuel rail, usually in hot weather is when this becomes very evident.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Thank you that is very helpful, didn't really consider that it may be a couple of problems at the same time. I'll check those things out.
