Default Yet another cooling concern

97 Disco I - 120k mi
1. 180 deg thermostat
2. Fan rotates no more than 90 degrees. Very stiff clutch.
3. No significant cool spots to the touch on the radiator.
4. electric fans appear to be functioning when A/C is engaged based on a visual observation. they have never been touched and I've owned the car since new so I have good reason to believe they are wired correctly (and I don't feel any flow out of the front grill, I do need to do the 'paper towel' test but am pretty confident it will pass)
5. New coolant reservoir cap.

- At idle, 82 deg day (today), without A/C it will hold a steady 183 deg. No problem.
- Still at idle, turn on A/C and over the course of 30 mins the temp will creep slowly up to 210.

- While in motion with the A/C on it hovers around 195.

- turn A/C off at idle and temp falls back to 185.

Am am using an app called "OBD Fusion" on an iPhone with a wifi connection to a ELM in the OBD port.

Other than having the radiator serviced, dipped, washed, rodded, I can't think of what to do next.

How concerned should I be? What would you do next? If anything.

I think you're right on the radiator....my 98 acted the same way...except it would way overheat with the a/c on....

Mine does the same thing, even with a new radiator. While running the AC the temp spiked to 220 while idling and blew a hole in my brand new expansion tank Still haven't figured out why mine runs hot, relative to all that I have done.

Best explanation I got was the coolant passages in my block are clogged?
I would really like to be able to run my AC

a temp of 220 is within the specs for fuel injected engines. you either had a defective expansion tank or you probably have an issue with combustion gasses in your coolant, which would be related to your head gaskets.

Echoing everyone else. Nothing in my cooling system is more than 2 years old, I hit 208 idling in the sun with the AC on, 190-195 in motion w the AC on.

Id hope not, had the head gaskets replaced 6 months ago. Also paid 200 to have the dealership tell me all was good.

Maybe faulty expansion tank cap? If the heads go again its a going to be a new engine.

Thanks good to know my temps are normal, just paranoid from overheating so much.
