Default ABS Sensor Question / Master Cylinder Question

Hi All,

How many ABS sensors do I have on my truck? Do I have one on each tire or just one for the front and one for the back?

One of them is bad and is keeping my ABS light on and I can't find anyone with a scanner to tell me which one is bad!

Also, can anyone recommend a good rebuild kit for the master cylinder on my truck? What all will I need to rebuild it? It is leaking and loses pressure maybe 2 or 3 times per month, although since I have had it bled it hasn't been acting up lately pressure-wise but still leaking..

Thanks!

There are 4 ABS sensors, one per wheel. You should be able to use a paper clip to on the OBDII port and jump pins 5 & 15 (iirc) to get your ABS light to blink so you can look up the corresponding problem.

Thanks Butchhe, but are you referring to the port that they plug in the check engine scanner to?

The ABS light stays on so once it starts to blink how will that lead me to which one is bad?

Do I need some sort of scanner to give me more codes or is this a bypass way to figure out which one is bad without needing the ABS scanner?

I looked up the instructions and that's WAY out of my DIY league! I think I would do better paying someone with an ABS scanner to read my codes...

If the resivoir is leaking at base you can buy the grommets from Volvo iirc

If the master is shot you need a genuine rover one, after market are not machined right

Abs sucks, most of us pulled the pump fuse under hood and forgot about it

I bought a brand new TRW master cylinder for my DI on Amazon a couple of years ago. TRW owns Lucas and has for some time. So, you can feel secure in buying the master in a TRW box as opposed to paying a whole lot more for the identical unit in a green and white Land Rover box. I know prices have changed since my purchase but I think the master back then was around $150 with free two day shipping.

OK, thanks Tom for the info, that sounds like a good idea. Do you think the ABS light will go out if I pull the fuse?
