Default Altenator recommendations? 98 50th anniversary edition 4.0l v8

I know there's posts about this, but I'm new and having a hard time finding them. Altenator was draining the battery, put a reman in, its not charging. Are there any brand or replacement recommendations?

Do you need to change the pulley?

Nope pulley on a P38 Alternator is identical to a GEMS 4.0L setup.

"If" you have a 94/95 D1 with the 3.9L V8 you can also drop the same P38 alternator in. It just requires a single mod & there are two ways to do it. I personally prefer the smaller pulley so it is further away from the $$$ and getting harder to find upper fan shroud piece, however you can swap the pulley over to the P38 Alternator, or do what I find best, and that's swapping the 94/95 Tach to a 96-99 GEMS Tach. Then you are good to go. My 95 has a P38 Alternator & the 96-99 GEMS Tach & it works like a charm.

@Best4x4 - have you covered this GEMS Tach mod anywhere? Would love to know more. I've got a 1994 and I am constantly fighting to keep a good tach connection on the back of the alternator... If you haven't covered in another post...care to share more about install?

I went the OEM LR rebuild route - no problems - had one year warranty and it only cost $100 with exchange - they paid the postage

RockAuto has a new 120amp alternator for the Disco - $171 with no core charge. It's made by Wai Global. Anyone have experience with that brand?
