Default alternator difference question....

the '94-'95 D1 alternator islisted as a different part number than the '96-'99 D1 alternator.......I have a couple non working ones here that I was going to have rebuilt.....but I was wondering what the difference between the years would be.....the only thing visible is the 94-95 has a larger pulley......does anyone know for sure if that's it ?

I have sold plenty of DI alternators. I always make sure that the pulley will match the year of the truck it's going to be installed on but beyond that, they're all 100 amps. I could be wrong but I couldn't identify (beyond the pulley) any difference between the model years. Certainly, the change in pulley size would be enough to warrant a new part number.

I snagged one from a 95 donor. I swapped pulley's with my 97 and with headlights on it looked like the Disco wanted to party (pulsing). It did not do that while on the 95. It was cold and I was just messing around so didn't pursue further. Still have it as a third string backup.

yup....my new to me '96 was sending strobe signals ( to the rover gods I assume) with the lights on....but was charging the battery...I replaced it with remanned Mag(whatever) Marelli off ebay, and now I have a collection of dud alternators here...one doesnt work at all, one flickers, one makes the tach go crazy, my local rebuild guy aint so local anymore so I've been thinking of getting a voltage reg assy and seeing if I can resurect at least one for a spare.....

thanks for the replys !
