Default Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank?

Hello Good People,

I looks like it may be that time for coolant expansion tank. I was thinking of getting another clear looking one but only say the black one on Atlantic British.
Have anyone installed an Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank? If so would very much like to hear your feedback. Are you using a pressurized cap or a CNC cap?

Thanks

Put one in two days ago so I can’t give you a review. Got it from Lucky8. Allisport I replaced my factory with a new plastic tank about a year ago and was starting to split apart.

Hey dcphotos,
Good to hear from you. Thanks for the image!
I see you went with the stock pressurized cap?

I did for now. Time will tell. I will say, I wrapped my positive battery cable real good. This aluminum tank sits very close to the battery cable routing and conducts electricity.

Looks like British Parts of Utah has the clear tank. AutoHausAZ has a white one. Personal preference by far is the clear (All-Makes 4x4 IIRC) for ease to see the coolant level. I run unpressurized cooling systems, so I am not looking at metal at all.

JohnZo,

Your response hit me like the bogeyman. I awake in the middle of the night thinking about an unpressurized D1 system and how this could be. It is as if I consumed too much liquid before heading to bed, only to have dreamt about being in a waterfall which actually means I need to wake up and unload my bladder. LOL

As you may have mentioned, you simply make sure the cap on the coolant reservoir is not fully locked in? And by doing so this equals an unpressurized cooling system?
Take me to school bro.

I'm in North East Scotland and I've been running an Aluminium tank for about 10 years. Best thing I have done.

Plastic for me. I'd rather have the cap allow pressure above 12 lbs bleed off. And the plastic tank will hopefully let loose before a head gasket. I can't say that for the aluminum.

Replacing a coolant reservoir is a whole lot easier than a head gasket.

Hey Walt
The aluminum tank with a pressurized cap sounds like the best of both worlds.
