Default Another Solve My Problem Via Internet - Oil on Cat

On my 1000m pointless venture I made this weekend my truck ran GREAT. I checked the oil and coolant at EVERY fill up. On the way back home I poped the hood and saw smoke. Oh sh.....

First of all when my truck runs I ALWAYS smell oil burning, well I found out what it was and luckily it was just oil on my catalytic converter. I was relieved, but still can't figure out how this is happening.

I dont have any idea how oil can get on that thing.. No transmission fluid leak down the dipstick or anything. Its on the passenger side front of the cat.

Any ideas how oil is getting on there?

Side story, I got 17.1 mpg going Half 70 and half 75mpg on the way up there. And 15mpg going 75 constant the whole way back.. Big difference! Wont catch me going that fast again unless Im driving 1000 miles and want to get the heck home.

Are you sure one of the trans oil cooler lines is not leaking?
It is blowing back from somewhere I would guess.

I had a transmission line spring a pinhole leak one time, took forever to track it down.

Had to crawl under it with a bright light with it running. Only leaked when running. It would accumulate and get everywhere even though it was only a pinhole and shot a real fine spray out when running.

valve cover gasket will leak there, also oil pressure switch will blow up there if you are on the highway..

I agree, if it is engine oil, it will most likely be from the v/c, when was the last time you tightened up the 2 bolts on each side?
