Anti-theft system randomly prevents me from starting the car
Any ideas?
On my 1999 Disco I, the anti-theft system's ignition kill switch stops me from starting the car. This happens randomly, and is apparently an electrical gremlin. I turn the ignition key, and-- either nothing happens, or the first brief cough, then cut-off. The red light on the dashboard is flashing and there's a rapid clicking sound. To get the car to start, I have to walk around and around the car, unlocking and locking the front doors and rear gate over and over, opening and closing, and trying the ignition again and again. Finally the car will start.
The car will behave perfectly for weeks at a time, and then have this problem for weeks at a time. No apparent pattern.

Check this site for suggestions of fixing:
Security and Alarm System Operation & Diagnosis on Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38A
It sounds like the FOB and vehicle are getting out of synch. Any chance you have kids that play with your keys and just push the "lock unlock" buttons when out of range of the vehicle? 20 "pushes" out of range would cause them to get out of synch.
If not, I would replace the FOB Battery first to see if that is the issue.
