Lifted the front end and lots of play, explains the death wobble. How difficult is it to change out, yes I've already looked through RAVE, just curious from the experts out there.

You sure it's the bearing and not the preload?

Ahhhh crap, no didn't think of that. So what's the procedure for that, am I better off getting it done professionally?

If you were planning on doing the bearings yourself, preload is a part of that process. Simple to do, just take your time and consult with RAVE and here frequently.

And if you've had the 'death wobble' for long enough because your 'preload' was wrong, then you need to do the bearings.

It's not that bad. (says the guy who's never done it). But I did watch someone do it. The pre load is just adjusting the pressure on the bearing by adding or removing shims (you'll need a shim pack) so that the pressure is perfect. Not too tight. Not too loose. It's just a lot of trial and error.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, this thing was meticulously cared for at the LR dealer, thinking the PO didn't want to deal with any further issues. I just picked it up 3wks ago so I'm going through things as they pop up.

I think they might be talking about swivel pin preload, not the bearing preload.

I'd check all of the tie rod ends, and also all of the bushings. On my D1 (especially before I fixed the power steering leak) the tie rod ends would some times just work loose.... especially when covered in ATF...

I'm still thinking swivel pins is what they are talking about.
