I'll post more pics once I get it all peeled off and re assembled. Peeling it off the rubber trim is extremely time consuming and really sucks. I would have masked it much different if I knew then what I know now. Any sort of rough surface or aged rubber (like every seal on a disco) grabs this stuff like crazy. Glass and door trim were cake but the window seals are awful to peel. Even with 7 coats there are areas fighting me pretty good.
I dipped a S1 over a weekend. The truck is a roller for now so it just needed to look a little better to sit in our showroom. Cleaned up nicely and I don't feel guilty for painting over the original patina haha
Only have one little piece of trim left to peel, otherwise it's done. Here's some pics I just took, sun is going down but you can still see it pretty good. I was initially concerned about the durability as it stayed kind of soft/tacky for the first day but it's much harder today. I guess the 72 hour full cure time is accurate.
I was thinking "doo doo brown", but chocolate works too.
Ok, but seriously. What spray gun did you use and how much PlastiDip? I may do mine in white.
it's not as poo brown as the photos make it seem, but it's definitely brown.
I used the Wagner Double Duty gun, it was like $79 on Amazon. I lot of people mentioned the cheapo Harbor Freight one working well but I wasn't going to risk it. I considered getting one like the dipyourcar.com guy sells but the hose and seperate compressor looked annoying to use in the videos. The hose is short so you have to pick up and move things every 30 seconds. The Wagner gun worked well once it was dialed in, you don't need as much flow as you'd think so it's easy to put it on heavy if you aren't paying attention.
I put on 7 coats and used a little over 3 gallons. Without any mistakes I would've used less than 3 gallons but I had to fix a few spots which took an extra quart or so. The leftover will be good for any needed touch ups though and it was only like $39 a gallon (on clearance which is why I went with diarrhea brown).
I have Dipyourcar set up and it works fantastic, or you can use a hvlp gun and a compressor. I haven't had any issue with the hose. I would guess it is 15 ft long. I would guess 4-5 gallons to do a disco.
