Default bad fuel economy and less power?

so over the last couple of days the rover seems to have been drinking more gas than usual. It is not real bad but slightly noticeable (the gauge went from roughly just above the half way line to roughly just below it within about 8-12 miles) it could be me but it really seems like the gauge is going slightly faster than usual. Now to add to this the truck feels like it is dragging, can't explain it other than it feels like I am always driving into a pretty strong wind, of course the last few days it actually has been really windy but I don't think that's it. The only thought I had was I engaged the CDL the other day and it had a little trouble disengaging, the light finally went off and driving in tight circles it feels like it is disengaged.

and no CEL.

so what are some of the other common things that may be the culprit?

Coolant Temperature Sensor. You can check yours with an ohm meter

Temp F Resistance
14 9100 - 9300 ohms
32 5700 - 5900
68 2400 - 2600
104 1100 - 1300
140 500 - 700
176 300 - 400
212 150 - 200

At idle in very cold weather it should be 175-185*

won't be able to check the truck until tomorrow and I am having trouble with the black and white rave manual photo, there looks like 2 sensors one in front and one in back? looks like front one is for the ECM and the other is for the gauge? any color difference or other way to distinguish them?

one has the standard removable metal clip same as fuel temp sensor, maf sensor and prolly a few others. The thin pointy one is for the gauge in the dash.

You want the wide one.

My t stat was stuck open. Engine running cool all the time. As a result the ECM kept dumping fuel into the system. I could smell it in the exhaust. Replaced the tstat and ECM stopped dumping fuel as it noticed the engine was warm. Runs like a banshee again! What temp does your guage read?

I went through the cooling issue about 6 months back or so, new Tstat, water pump, radiator, flushed the system and added fresh coolant. sometimes I smell fuel after driving every now and then coming from the back end (exhaust was where I thought it came from), thinking about it seemed to smell it more often on hot days, but don't recall it in the last couple.

My gauge goes up and sits right where it should (just under half way), be it 40 degrees out with the heat on or off, or 120 degrees with the A/C on or off.

ok so idle the truck at normal operating temp, and test resistance between the 2 pins on the sensor. I am guessing I unplug the sensors harness before I test it?

and if it is bad it should read read off the charts either high or low? like 0-100 or 10,000+

and also as soon as I unplug it will the truck start running rough?

Hmm your right truck might start overfueling if it isn't already, maybe let it warm up a while then check it. And everything else you said is correct
