I think Lucas makes all sorts of F U components too. I think I'll see if I can order up a "Special F U Vehicles" badge for my rig.

Sorta like the bumper sticker that says "CAUTION, DO NOT FOLLOW TOO CLOSELY, PARTS MAY FALL OFF AT ANY TIME."

So far, my middle muffler, passenger's running board, and a few other minor things have come off while underway.

The fuel lines have rotted thru, the brushbar was falling apart and a few other minor issues.

But you gotta love it to keep it.

Thanks Cosmic...

As he has a '97, I was not sure if he had AEL - and therefore an alternate fuel filter location than my '96 and your '66, '94 and '95. (At least I believe that the AEL System differentiates the Filter Location)

I pulled the carpet up and the cover. I still have to get the pump out.

If he did indeed change the pump, then you may have an "installation" issue if the POV did this himself. I have read stories where the the installation was not completed properly, and the bottom "cup" of the pump assembly was completely off and the pump just slamming against the bottom of the tank.

If I were you, I would pull the carpet up off the cargo floor, take off the access cover and pull the assembly out of the tank for the "visual once over".

Other than that, without any additional details, the other suggested courses of action are still the ones I would pursue.

Good Luck!

Chris
I have a '97 with AEL and my filter is in the rear passenger wheel well, not in the tank. The difference is mainly in the type of pump needed. AEL is a more expensive pump. I know because I just replaced mine on Monday!

I replaced the fuel pump tonight. It started and then died and would not start again. I will recheck the connections, relay and fuse tomorrow.

Got it running. Guess it wasn't the fuel pump as I cannot go over 1500 rpms. This is sooo frustrating.

I just paid $900 for a new exhaust system. I'm not sure what other symptoms to give. It idles and starts fine it just will not let me go past 1500-2000 rpms.

I'm sorry. What I meant was I was being too lazy to read the rest of the thread.

It still sounds like an exhaust restriction. Maybe the new cats were damaged somehow?
