Battery Overheating- 97 Discovery 4.0

Battery Overheating- 97 Discovery 4.0
I've had this reoccurring problem where I would be driving for a while and I would start smelling a rotten egg smell in my vehicle. I've narrowed it down to the battery overheating but I can't figure out what would be causing the battery to overheat. If anyone could somehow point me in the right direction that would be a great help. I have a DMM, Test lights, and a system tester btw

I directly smelled the battery after I had shut it off and the smell was definitely coming from the battery It's not the catalytic converters cuz I've already tested and they were about two years old anyway. Mileage is fine, It's definitely the battery

No none related to the charging system or battery..Just a couple random misfire codes

Not catalytic converters those are working fine My fuel mileage is good. It's definitely the battery I smelled the battery after I shut the vehicle off one day and it was definitely coming from there

With engine off battery should read 12.6VDC. With engine running battery should read 14-14.2VDC. Anything over 14.8VDC and you should have the alternator checked. If the alternator needs to be replaced (the internal voltage regulator fails) have it rebuilt professionally.

Way too high! The voltage regulator is non-existent, toast. Your about to blow up your battery or have a fire. Don't drive it until you find another or get yours rebuilt. It's that serious. If it's off-gassing where you can smell it and the voltage is that high your taking a huge chance. I'm serious. Find either a used alternator, buy a rebuild kit or get yours rebuilt. I have a heavy equipment shop nearby that rebuilds earth moving equipment electrics plus and they charged me $50 for one I had on the shelf as a spare (that was free). Do something now! Don't get a lifetime rebuilt from the big box stores, they crap the bed often and you'll be replacing them often.
