Default Belt tensioner pulley - circlip

Can anyone tell me what the best way to get this circlip out of the belt tensioner pulley? I have a new bearing on the way and want to have the old one out before the new one gets here. I tried a screwdriver but didn't have a whole lot of luck...

Thanks - Paul

Try 2 screwdrivers & get ready to catch/find the clip... it can come out like a beast.

I was able to get the clip out with a curved pick type tool and then using the method shown in the video of prying underneath the clip with a flat blade screwdriver all the way around until it popped out. Even pressed out the old bearing - now just waiting for the new bearing to get here! Thanks much!

Put a smaller socket on the bearing, inside the circlip. Give it a good smack away from the circlip, this should make it easier to pop it out.
As mentioned, use two screwdrivers. Get it pulled out a bit with one and quickly jam the other in the gap. Now you can relax. Take the first screwdriver and work it around to free the circlip. Make sure you don't permanently bend the circlip in the process.

For future reference you can buy a brand new pulley with a new bearing at Auto Zone for 19.99 P/N: 231081.

I had a lovely squeal at startup/shutdown on my 98 D1 and I knew what it was so I looked up the part on Auto Zone's website and sure enough they had one and it was in stock. Slapped it on in a matter of minutes and now I'm squeal free at startup/shutdown.

I'm too much of a tight wad and I like doing easy stuff like this. Cost me $3.

Best way to it out is to drill a small shallow hole at 45 degrees into the groove of the pulley in the snap ring gap, then slide the ring around and lever it out.
Once you fit the new bearing use a proper internal circlip instead of the snap ring so its easier next time.
