Default ???? best thermostat for Disco I ?????

ok ,

with all the volumes of wisdom out there , I need the best t-stat for my Disco I. It is so hot here in AL right now, Satan called and asked for his cool weather back. I am planning on rodding my radiator in the next week or so, and am going to replace all the hoses, water pump, and t-stat. ALSO how much should a rad. shop charge to rod out my radiator??? I have recieved quoted from 65$ all the way up 475$.

65$ sounds about right. $475 was probably for a recore.
You want a 180F thermostat.

180* for sure. Mine ran no hotter than 204 through the mountains on the way to Asheville, NC with the AC on in 97* heat. No hotter than 185 on the way back down the mountain. Its a small block chevy stat with an 1/8" weep hole drilled in the front. Available at any parts store.

That's a good question. The RAVE says opening 88 degrees. Rimmer Bros (UK volume parts dealer) sells an 82 C and 88 C both as OEM. But antiChrist also makes a good point, many euro stats are marked for fully open temp, while US market stats are marked for "starts to open" temp. On most mechanical stats start to open is about 15 - 20 degrees behind fully open.

Here's a link to Rimmer's page Discovery 1 Thermostat & Temperature Sender at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

The D2 stat data is in the RAVE, starts to open at 180F, fully open 204F.

I like my 180F stat.

Most stats come with a air bleeder/toggle in the outer flange, when ever I change out a state I brk off the toggle and widden the hole. This make it easier to remove all the air from the sys..
