Default Brake booster and brake light switch ????

Ok folks,

I have a dilema.... I just replaced my master cylinder and brake booster with what I understood from AB were OE parts. After going through that process I now have brake lights that are on all the time. I asked when I purchased the parts if any adjustments were necessary I was told by tech services that they were direct bolt up. I tested the switch and it is good. What am I missing here ??? If they are OE parts and require no adjustment (not that I saw anything that could be adjusted) shouldn't everything just bolt up and work ??????

There's a plunger on the brake light switch that needs to be adjusted out to touch the pedal.

FishEH,

How far should the white plunger be out ?

Right now it is out between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. Is this done by pulling out the red sleeve ? If so, I have tried this and it does not seem to move. This real has me scratching my head.

The plunger needs to contact the arm for the brake pedal. When you press the brake pedal the plunger extends and the brake lights go on. When you release the pedal the plunger gets slightly depressed getsand the lights go off. You may have to fiddle with it a bit to get it dialed in.

fishEH,

It does not contact the brake pedal. I will fiddle with it some more but my fear is that the brake booster arm is keeping the pedal from touching the switch....

Did you happen to notice a spacer plate at anytime?

There was a spacer plate on the back of the brake booster.... Rave manual says to keep and reuse it. Which I did. As I mentioned before the parts I put on are OE. I read a boat load of threads about only using OE to avoid problems.

I am guessing what you are saying without saying it is that its not needed ???

Is that the case ?

Did you get instructions with the new booster?

The booster was a TRW Lucas which had 6 pictures and the instructions say remove the master cylinder , remove the booster. Reinstall booster and master cylinder. Torque all bolts and reinstall brake lines and bleed system..... Not much of an instruction set. No mention of spacer and no spacer shown in pictures (should I have guessed that no mention meant no spacer).
