Default brake doesn't reach brakelight switch

that pretty much says it all. my brake doesn't come back to rest far enough to depress the brakelight switch and turn the brakes off. what could be some of the reasons for this. thanks

has the switch popped out of its holder ? ( mine did that once) the bracket that holds my switch seems to be a little on the flimsy side and could be easily bent

no, it's a new switch. unless theres another "click" and i didn't get it all the way in. (that's what she said) it's had master cylinder work done and then this happened.

I wonder.....did the brakes get bled properly....(are they working right ) , vac line hooked up ? etc etc, possibly something was left out of the reassembly process ?

Bleeing the brakes should not cause this. It sounds like something was re-assembled wrong, especially if it worked good before...............

you mean to turn the brake lights off, right? when i bought a new switch, the plunger was pushed in too far, and after pulling it out some, it was long enough so that depressing and releasing the pedal turned it on/off. Maybe you need to play with the length of the plunger on the switch, if i'm reading your thread correctly

yes you are reading the thread correctly and i've already pulled the plunger all the way out and still have about a 1/4 inch of space.

i think this is the reason for the problem. when i bled the brakes, i replaced the brake booster. probably when i reinstalled that i didn't line it up right or something.

Double check that it is pulled all of the way out. Also check the plunger for the vacuum switch. Make sure it isn't keeping the pedal from coming back all of the way..

i had a feeling it may be that i didn't line up the brake booster in the firewall hole. i'll check today after work. problem is that upper right nut is a pain to get to
