So 235/85/16 work well with a 2" lift and don't require much trimming. Would 245/85/16 be to much of a difference? I never really messed with different tire size options so what's the benefit and con of having a "bigger" or "smaller" tire? And how hard is it to adjust steering stops?

245/85 is not a common tire size, in fact I've never heard of one. The next size up in the 85 series is a 255/85, which is huge (about 34"). Another advantage I have not mentioned for the 85 series is you have less unsprung weight and rolling resistance than say a 265/75.

Pros - more ground clearance
Cons - less mechanical advantage (gutless)

Adjusting steering stops: easy if you own a wrench.

245/75 is smaller, reports vary on how much trimming you need but it's either none or just a tad. Might not even need to touch the steering stops.

Here's where 245/75s would get you in trouble:

This was on 265/75s. This was literally the only line I could find up this hill, and I had less than 1/2" clearance under the differentials at times. I couldn't even air down or I'd scrape! One size smaller on the the tires and I would have had to turn around and surrender the crawl to the Jeeps. Note, this is the same climb that inspired me to relocate my steering damper...

I would say if you plan to do any rock crawling, stick with at least a 235/85 or 265/75. Same story if you wheel where there are deep ruts. For casual 2-tracks, sure, feel free to get something smaller.

Boise. But I remember when I had my full-size Heep, I did a road trip to Minneapolis with it. On the way back we cruised through your neck of the woods. Man I wish I'd had more time to hit all those side roads and trails...we did have a blast checking out the craters.

It's always been one of my dreams to take an overland trip to Alberta, BC, and Alaska. Unfortunately I don't have the funding or a worthy enough rig for such a long trip, but some day I will. For an outdoorsman like me, your neck of the woods looks like an absolute paradise. Not saying the "grass is greener", (though literally, it probably is) but I'd love to spend some time in that area.
