Default Can I Fit A Larger Tire Under A Stock Discovery?

So 2 out of 4 of the garbage Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires that came on our Rover are gone. One has a giant mystery gash in the sidewall and the other has a slow leak. Only a few thousand miles but not holding air is a bit of a problem as you can imagine. Anyway I searched but didnt turn up much on tire upgrades. We will more then likely just buy a complete set and were curious if the stock 235/70/16 is the largest that will fit or is there room for more tire? Not interested in anything that even slightly rubs, needs to operate just like stock. My main thing is having more options, 235/70 seems to be harder to come by than some of the slightly larger sizes. Thanks everyone

you can run 245/70/16 which is a little bit taller than stock (29.5" iirc) which is what i'm running at the moment with absolutely no rubbing issues. You can also run a 245/75/16 iirc - my friend was running this size on his classic as it was the largest size you could get away with no rubbing and not having a lift. The 245/75/16 is about an inch and a half taller overall than the stock tire size. I'm sure others will chime in with things they have tried.

Default 265/70/R16 rubs on Disco I

I have 265/70/R16s on my 1995 Disco and mine operate fine most of the time but they do rub the trailing arms at a full lock turn. I just back off the turn a little and I am fine. Looks like 255 might be the limit.

I ended up going to Sears and getting the Bridgestone Dueler ATP in the 235/70 16 wanted to get the Goodyear TA KO but no one in this area had them in styock. Sears said they did, showed up on computer inventory even, but an hour later they come out and tell me they "could not find them" so I ended up getting the Bridgestones since they were on hand.

Thanks yall, I'm gonna hit one of the 3 million used tire places around here and get a set tomorrow. Just wanted to get an idea of what sizes I could grab. They will only be temporary so brand doesn't really matter. We were planning on buying new tires when the lift goes on but ours decided to croak before hand which put a wrench in the plans. Not sure how trustworthy the used tire places are but I don't see any use buying 4 new ones just to upgrade in a few weeks. Anyway hopefully the beast will be back on the road by wednesday, driving the Volvo every day sucks.

215/85s should fit on a stock height rig as well. Pretty much the same height as a 245/75 but narrower (less rolling resistance, weight, sticker price, etc.)

I love my 235/85s but that's with a modest lift and trimming.

My son has done well at the places that do "take-off's" where someone got a new vehicle, did not like the tires and possibly wheels and immediately bought new ones.

He got a nice set on his Surburban for less than 200 installed.

Started thinking and opted to just get two used ones versus a whole set. The two on the front were flawless so we just had the rears replaced. Giant bubble on the inside that burst one one causing the sudden flat and the slow leak was from a random metal scrap that was stuck in the tire. Anyway got the old ones removed and two nice used ones mounted and balanced for a whole 90 bucks. Hopefully by spring will be sitting on much larger feet

you can eleminate rubing front tires with trailing arms at the end strok by adjusting tow scrows of end limit at each hub' in that case you will ride off rubing but loosing little turning manouver
