Default Can't find Spider

Had enough of my intermittent no starts so I went in today to find and disable the spider..

Got all the stuff out of the way and I just see another black air manifold.. I see in the manual where it's supposed to be.. I see the three screw mounts on the air duct..

Where the heck is the spider ?

96 D1

Thanks

John

Looks like mine doesn't have one.. I did find some corrosion on the pins of the AMR4885 box.. Cleaned that up... Now I guess I have to put it all back together and see if it's still going to be intermittent...

You know, I looked at your thread awhile ago where you purchased the "spyder bypass" and thought to myself "where were the spyders in the hundred or more DI's I've parted over the years?" I don't recall ever seeing a spyder on an NAS DI and yet I keep reading about people who have. It really makes me scratch my head and wonder about this marvelous invention we have here in the internet and all the wonderful advice we glean from it.

96+ don't have a spider. I assume the 94-95 do.

Hmmm. I just tore apart a '94 and there wasn't one on that truck either. Do '95 RRC's have spyders? They used the same alarm, efi ecu, ect as the DI's did but you never hear anyone talk about a spyder in a RRC. Sorry, but I have my doubts.

Frankly, I think, with regard to NAS DI's, the spyder is not unlike the Lock Ness monster. Maybe there's one out there but I won't believe it until I see it. Any and all mentions of a spyder with links to articles on the web all seem to involve ROW DI's not NAS models.

If you own an NAS DI YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPYDER. I don't care if you have a '96 or later or a '95 or '94. You DO NOT HAVE A SPYDER.

1) The part for sale on the Rovers North Catalog, AMR4956 is for the 300 Tdi. It says so right on the page.

2) Savannah Buzz's link to where the spyder is located is for ROW (rest of the world) Rovers. It mentions Lo, Mid and High line radios. The NAS DI only had one radio and it was a premium radio. The page that link is for is not an NAS DI. It is for a ROW DI.

3) His second link is one I am having trouble finding. I'd love to know exactly which manual it is from. I'll bet dollars to donuts that schematic is not for an NAS DI.

4) Anitchrists link is to someone with a 300 Tdi, not an NAS DI.

5) Click on NabisOne's link to Rovers North and again, it lists the part for a 300 Tdi harness!

6) GPRtech, I'd love to see some real evidence that NAS DI's had the spyder up through 1996 and that is was mysteriously dropped in 1997.

7) I truly feel for all you guys who either bought that part from Rovers North and wasted your money or tore apart your dash like JPSpen in a futile attempt to find a part that was never there.

Mods, the sticky needs to either be removed or cleaned up so that people can see that this mythical spyder is simply not present on NAS DI's.

Yup, tore my dash apart looking for the elusive beast, never did find it. While I had it apart, I cleaned up the ghetto wiring from the old radio (that was removed before i got the truck) and removed the big *** amplifier under the pass seat, and installed a radio from Walmart. Nice to have tunes for those long drives.

That's good info, thanks Paul. At least that's one less thing to go on a wild goose chase for.
