Default The case of the dying fuel pump(s). 3 now in 3 weeks.

Ok. I need to figure this out. Was on trail today and
had to be towed to main road for AAA. I have been
through 3 pumps. 2 Carter, and 1 Airtex. Pumps keep
dying sooner now. They just stop working. I put a new
one in and they work fine. Any idea what is going on
here? I was almost stuck 15 miles out in a national
forest today.

I have not yet changed whole assembly. Could this be
the issue? Please help Mike or anyone who has ideas!
Thanks guys!

Stating the obvious have you changed the fuel filter yet? You mite also want to check your wiring harness real good, If your not getting full current to your pump itll burn them out just as quik as to much current

I agree with the pump harness, a power Spike (hehe) will blow the pump.

I changed the fuel filter as well. But even if the filter was clogged it wouldn't kill the pump every 3 days right? The sock isn't clogged. The harness looks fine. I think it got wet with fuel. So buy a wiring harness? Should I try and buy the complete assembly? I don't really see what that would do since the pump is going and the harness plugs directly into the fuel pump. I've spent almost $400 so far.

Step 1: Change full assembly?
Step 2: Change wiring harness?

I want to work this out this week. Any other ideas or tests?

My Delco EP241 has been working fine for the 4 1/2 years or so since I installed it.
I'd check the things suggested.

Any chance you are running too big a fuse on the circuit? This would allow too much power to the pump thus frying it as well. What voltage are you getting at the pump?

Not sure need to test voltage. It runs a few days and dies
Previous ran 120k no issues.

Ok. Pushed the inertia switch that didn't fix it.

How do I access the wiring harness for the fuel pump? Do I have to drop the tank? Any other options in keeping this new pump from dying.

I'm getting concerened should I change the relay which I think is located under the right kick panel on passanger side? What rating should this relay have?

The relay on the evaps disco 1's is part of a multi-function unit under the hood. It's on the inner passenger side fender, right next to the canister box. This is what it looks like, connector ends facing down.

I would get a multi-meter and check the power at the pump when it's not working. The harness for the fuel pump should be removable without dropping the tank. It's just the harness that plugs into the pump and goes forward a few feet, with a plug on the other end also.
