Default Cat delete?

Hey guys I'm just workin out a few little things with new disco. Check engine light was on, catalyst inneficiency bank 1, and i live in beautiful green Oregon, land of no emissions laws! So being as how i would have to be a complete moron to actually pay a single cent for another cat, and being as how i am a complete moron i promptly cut both out, in between the o2 sensors, and just welded straight 2 1/8'' tubing in between. So, naturally the light is still on, so i figure either the ECU is just needing to be cleared of codes, but i was just curious if anyone has experience with this, (on a strict off road truck, of coarse!) and if the o2's downstream will get bad readings and keep coming on? if thats the case i'll just not worry about it, and just unplug the light, or put some electrical tape over it!

So I haven't lived in Oregon for 4 years or so but did they dissolve DEQ or do you live in the sticks? You may be able to find "dummy" o2 sensors... if that black tape bothers you.

some people with other makes of vehicle have had good luck with spacing the rear o2 sensor out with a spark plug non-fouler. This way it's still in the system, but the tip isn't actually in the exhaust flow.

Yes the light will stay on all the time because the cats are not working. (duh)
You can buy dummy O2's off of e-bay.
Hell man, $160 for your old cats is a good deal.

Spike I remember a while back when we were all discussing this and no one could find dummy O2s for our Discos. Being as I have been gone awhile I guess I missed it. So you finally found some that work?

Yes I found some.
I was PM'ed by a member who had bought some and he was going to sell them to me for what he paid, $100 for 2 if I remember right.
They do not plug into your O2 bungs, you cut the wires and splice these in and then you bolt them to the frame.
They mimic a rear heated O2, they were a box looking thing with cooling fins.
You should be able to find them on e-bay if you look, I have since deleted the PM with them.

You can always just build your own, I think LR O2's are three wire, so you only have one heater wire instead of a pair.

Ya, I got the truck in Portland, so ya, it passed smog/DEQ all that, but i live on coast, so ya, not needed! I'll have to look into the whole dummy/modified o2 setup then.
