Default Coolant Question

Hi guys:

Just bought my first land rover. I've never been very mechanically inclined, but I'm hoping this truck will help me learn. So, excuse this dumb question I'm about to ask.

The truck I bought has green coolant in it. But, when I went to go buy more, the green coolant bottle says Japanese cars only. The pink coolant, however, says Land Rover Discovery. How should I proceed? I have been told not to mix colors of coolant. Should I just stick with green?

you want the old-school green coolant.

do not put Dex-Cool (orange) in the truck.

i assume a Universal coolant would work, as well.

@mshka green is fine, just do not mix colours. Anti-freeze has reached epic levels of silliness with types and colours.

the Orange XLC was recommended by LR for the D1 Defender etc. - it was more environmentally friendly than the green G48 - you would not mix the the two - the mixture is 50/50

Don't just use any green coolant! The original coolant used is IAT (Inorganic Additive Technology), if the green coolant you're using is not that, do not use. I've never found IAT available at any parts store because it was awful for the environment, I doubt it's even made anymore (prove me wrong if it is). I myself have been using Peak European coolant which is a blue HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) coolant that is GREAT for aluminum parts.

Thanks for the tip! I did just put generic (?) Autozone green coolant in it. It's been fine since I did, but I will be sure to use the IAT stuff in the future. Also taking her in for a once-over on Wednesday (at an LR specialist), so hopefully the shop will get that straightened out if the coolant really shouldn't be in there.
