Default Coolant spraying... 95 discovery

I have coolant spraying all over. I am fairly confident it isn't a hose.

Thinking water pump...

If the water pump goes bad can it leak? Also the pulley that drives the waterpump/fan wobbles in and out a bit (probably 5-10mm). Is this normal?

thanks

DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE!!!
Your water pump bearings are gone and you run the risk of sending your engine fan through the radiator if you run the engine and the water pump lets go completely.
A new Land Rover radiator for a DI is around $600.

Do I just need to replace the water pump and gasket?

With that much play in the water pump pulley, yes the water pump needs to be replaced, along with the water pump gasket. Whether or not this fixes your coolant spraying problem is anyone's guess until you have pinpointed the origin of the spraying coolant.

You will be pulling that whole front end apart. Take your time planning and see what else you should take care of while you are that deep into it.

The whole front end? Won't it just be the radiator, fan, belt and pulley/water pump? What else would I take care of?

Changing the water pump and gasket is a 1 hour job, 2 if you run into trouble.
All you need to do is remove the fan, then the water pump.
Scrap the block with a straight razor and then scuff it with a emery cloth, clean it with brake cleaner.
Let it dry and then put it back together.

Thanks again everyone. Will order with WP on monday and tackle this next weekend.

Still am not clear if my symptoms would cause a leak though. I cannot track down the source of the leak, but the best I can figure is that it is coming from right around where the pulley is...

will report back after I replace the WP.

Does Autozone etc.. have a decent equivalent water pump, or should I order it from a rover parts place?

Yes AutoZone has water pumps for your truck, all Disco's from '96 to '04 use the same water pump and gasket.

Pump is probably only leaking when the engine is running, then the fan is blowing the coolant back on the engine, hood, and everywhere else. You would never know if you had another leak till you get the pump fixed. I am betting that is your only problem
