The Craziest Air Con Issue?
Hi all. My 1st post here.
I have a weird issue that has me mentally climbing the wall with my D1 98 TDI 300.
My Air Con clutch won't engage however, the dual fans kick in, and the light comes on at the air con switch on the dash.
The crazy thing is, if disconnect the plug at the clutch and check the voltage between the 2 wires, I get 12 - 13.2v.
When I connect the male to female plug the clutch fails to kick in. However, if I unplug the plug again and wire the plug to straight to the battery, the clutch kicks in and the air con works as it should.
The ONLY issue I can think of is that the plugs brass connectors are not engaging but everything certainly looks as it should. Strange for my brain!
Now, there must be an issue besides that because even when the Air Con switch is turned off there is still 12v at that plug??? So, something is wrong.
All this started when I woke up recently with a flat battery and upon recharge I discovered the AirCon clutch was engaged even though the Ignition switch was off.
But since disconnecting the battery to free the clutch I have the clutch never engaging again even though there is voltage at that plug.
There is no melting or any apparent damage. All the fuses are OK and I've tested all the relays and they all seem OK.
So, I'm lost for an answer. Any help will make me a friend for life. (Unless you don't want that? lol)
