Default Crazy prices on D1's??

I have been looking at getting another LR, most specifically a RRC or an '04 Disco. But then I came across this:Land Rover : Discovery | eBay

At first I thought, yea right, it will never sell at that price. Then as I read it, and see the work done, and condition it's in, and the miles on it, I got a little interested. Would it be crazy to spend that much? I mean, I can get an '04 for a couple grand more. But, I gotta admit, buying from a specialty rover place speaks alot.

Thoughts???

Not looking to bash Rover Classic, or spread harmful rumors, but I'm pretty sure thats the same company/guy that sold a D1 to someone on one of the forums that was full of snake oil. As soon as they took out the extremely thick oil it made all sorts of racket and had many other issues show up shortly after. Just an FYI and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

But regardless, that isn't THAT low of mileage, I see them come up with close to 100k miles all the time (and apparently Rover Classic does too according to their for sale section).
The vehicle report at the top says 3 owners, while the ad makes sure to say 1 owner vehicle, so a carfax is a must (like always).

I'd be skeptical about buying from them, as I would with buying a Rover from anyone. But to answer your main question, yes, I think thats a bit crazy...unless you think they will become collectible over time and you're never going to drive it. lol

No way in hell, a Rover "specialty" shop means squat.
Its a SD, which is base model, the SD roof rack is worth $500, the ladder is $100 brand new, the running boards are crap, the OEM brush guard is $50 and for a "full safari package" it has crap tires.
It is a very sharp looking truck and I like the color, but no way in hell.

I got the same truck minus the rack..and my is lifted..I wouldnt let me Rover go for anything less than $7000 grand now (new paint, suspension, tires, brakes, engine overhaul etc)...its worth that much to me...and thats prolly why i will never sell it..Grover has been a trooper...countless of off roading and nothing broke...where as several of people i know with jeeps have..I have probably 100+ hours of off roading on this thing since I got it in October (maintainance does not count)

All its missing is some lockers

Find one in good shape. no rust, and start there. Build it yourself. In the end you get more enjoyment out of it and you will know the truck inside and out giving you a certain piece of mind while out on the trail.

It looks awesome, not even a hint of bubbling at the bottom of the c pillars but it's 3500$ too expensive. As Spike said it has crappy tires and the accessories aren't close to be worth the premium price asked.

i bought a 99 D2 with 103k miles on it 3 years ago for $3k. body was in just as good a shape as that one when i bought it.

note that AD says nothing about head gaskets being done. it's a ripoff. he's looking for someone from Long Island or some young kid that knows nothing about rovers and would want to put 20"s on it and drive it around the city trying to show off. waste of time and money IMO.

I bought my '98 for $4.5k back in '07 when it had right around 100k miles. The head gaskets were not a huge deal for me, as I have a few miles shy of 170k on mine and have never been deeper than a water pump into the engine.

But I did notice how it says "every available option for year", yet glaringly missing is seat heat switches and no rear a/c. And he's supposed to be a rover specialist, right.

That is what I was thinking, using my current truck. IF I get a RRC, I want to take mine(came from florida, only "rust" is a few bubbles by alpine windows), swap out lift for terrafirma(my big blues only gave aprox 1.5 inches), throw on an arb bumper and some mean tires, maybe a tru-trac or two.

Or I might get an '04 and build it up and keep my '98 as-is. But I can't get past the scarieness(is that even a word?) of the '04's and the appetite for engines they have, or at least that I have heard of.

But someone slap me now, as I also saw an fj80 land cruiser that got some ideas going....
