Default Cruise control questions...

For those of you that have working CC, what does the amber light mean on the power switch after you engage it? Problem with the system or normal?

Also, can you hear the vacuum pump operating? Let's say with the engine off and key on...does the pump run when you depress the switch or does it only run when ECU senses you are over 30 mph?

I've got a new (used) switch in that actually seems to work and light up where my old one wouldn't but all I get is the amber light and I think there should be a green light too (when engaged?). Obviously the cruise is not working.

I have a new (used) ECU also (thanks Josh) but I haven't put that in yet.

Thanks!

Mine doesn't work but when I depress the button, it goes green so that's just one more thing I need to look at.

The pump won't run unless the vehicle is moving at more than 35 MPH.

No green light, just amber.

Well there are two bulbs, one amber and one green. Green just for night lights?

All the parts and pieces seem to be here. I guess I'll try the ecu next.

The ECUs rarely go bad. Switches, relays, etc go bad often.

main problem is split pipes or the brake switch at the top of the brake peddal

In ten years+ of doing nothing but wrenching on Rovers, have yet to see that switch fail. It's almost always the switches on the steering wheel.

PT, are those switches difficult to get to? Maybe spray-out with contact cleaner? I looked at RAVE and it seemed a bit involved to get access to.

Any way to test if vac pump is getting power or is it only energized >35 mph? Thanks!

Switches on the wheel are easy to get to. Disconnect battery, and remove the air bag. You can use a multimeter to see if switch is operational.
