Curious about conversion of efi to carb on 94/95 d1
Has anyone converted to carb? Maybe old tech and mine seems fine right now but just curious, my rover experience is with the Thor v8s, new to these systems. I see a good old distributor and that got me thinking.
Lots of reasons to not do it ranging from lower torque, poor driveability when changing altitudes, worse fuel economy, EPA violations, but if you must do it there are lots of people who would want to buy the harness and manifold from you to get rid of the carbs on their 3.5 90s and 110s
I know a few conversions done on the 3.9L in the 94-95 Defenders. They change out the intake, install carb with direct injection, and some even install an HEI dizzy to replace the OEM stuff. Most of those are $$$$$$$ Defenders or trail trucks. I don't think any of them were getting inspected like in CA for example. The 14CUX setup on the 94-95 D1's is darn near bullet proof. The weak link IMHO is the OEM dizzy with the ignition amplifier. It's even the latest remotely mounted version, but can still just simply fail. Get the aftermarket dizzy which eliminates the OEM amplifier and you'll be good to go.
Thanks best, like I said I’m new to these 94/95 systems but happy to back in an old rover. I’m excited to dig into it but have a bunch of house renovations to get done first. I will keep it efi but was just curious.
