Default D1 Oxygen Sensor Woes

Hey folks,
I’ve got a ‘96 D1 that is throwing upstream O2 sensor codes (P0130 & P0150). I’m a little confused about which O2 sensors I’ll need, as I’m not sure if my car has AEL or not. My VIN is SALJN1247TA174490 and my EVAP family is TLR1060AYPOC. I’d really appreciate if you guys could point me in the right direction. Thanks so much!

Is your charcoal canister round or square?

Round is non-AEL and square is AEL. My '96 is non-AEL, not sure when the change was made.

Looks like I’m non-AEL then too, I’ve got the round canister. Thanks for that! Looks like I’m pretty much stuck with Rovers North or AB for the sensors, huh? Or can I find them any cheaper elsewhere?

My usual go to vendors are AutohausAZ or Rock Auto for low cost parts, but both are more expensive than AB for O2s. A nice detail from AB is the VIN (VA350101) that changed to AEL.

I purchased my non-AEL O2's from Lucky8 last year. It was the most economical place I could find for them at the time.

Thanks very much for the insight, folks! Going to place an order tomorrow and tackle the job when the parts arrive.

double check the connector that goes over the bell housing (from left side or passenger side US) - My 98 had the connector clip broken - kept working loose then throwing a code till I zip tied it - I discovered this when I was going to replace the O2 sensor - its still in the box on a shelf 10yrs on....

Seems my connectors are pretty solidly fixed to the bell housing, so probably just time for some new sensors. Thanks for the tip though, definitely worth checking.

Another tip: Rearrange the connectors locations so they are easier to reach for next time. Ensure wire route does not contact exhaust manifolds.

How can they be rearranged? The connector lead terminates above the bell housing and the O2 wire is just long enough to reach it. There didn't seem to be enough wiring to move anything around. From what I remember the driver side was pretty easy, but the passenger side was a pain. I had to reach above the bell housing, finagle the connector around and snap it together with one hand. I was sooo happy when I felt and heard that click!

I looked for extensions when I replaced my O2's but couldn't find any.
